FIERCE Advocates Celebrates Black Women’s Power and Resilience with New Anthology During Black History Month
[RICHMOND, CA] – FIERCE Advocates, a community based organization committed to empowering Black and Latinx parents and caregivers, will host a Black History Month event celebrating the launch of its anthology titled "Unleashing the Power of HER: From Overcoming Stuck to Creating Legacy" on Thursday, February 20 at 7 p.m. on Zoom. The public is invited to register for the event here.
Authored by 22 African American women, this compelling anthology reflects the diverse experiences of Black women navigating life’s challenges, from systemic barriers to personal challenges, with strength, grace, and determination. The anthology offers an intimate look into the lives of Black women who face incredible obstacles from battling illnesses like breast cancer and alopecia, experiencing homelessness, and working to keep their children from falling victim to the school-to-prison pipeline. Alongside the hardships they faced, these women found strength through spiritual wellness, travel, and their unwavering pursuit of personal goals like education.
“Unleashing the Power of HER is more than just a collection of stories—it’s a testament to the power of resilience, the value of community, and the importance of lifting up Black women’s voices,,” said Sheryl Lane, executive director of FIERCE Advocates and one of the book’s co-authors.
“At FIERCE advocates, we take a holistic approach to supporting parents of color. Our focus on Black women is a central part of that work. Black women are leaders in our communities and hearing their stories is not only inspiring, it gives us a lens into what the needs of our community are and how we can work to empower Black women, just as they work so hard to empower us.”
In honor of Black History Month and the enduring legacy of Black women’s leadership, the virtual webinar will feature four of the book’s co-authors who will share their personal journeys of resilience and explore how they overcame the many barriers Black women often encounter.
